When using the hot plate: the control system will shut down the element if a pot is not present, not large enough or when its contents have boiled dry. My Domain Management advises residents that the glass ceramic top can be damaged by a hard impact or sliding cookware across the glass surface. Aluminium foil can melt onto the top also causing permanent damage.
