HOW TO GET FIT AND BEAT FIRST YEAR SPREAD

Heading to university and heard of the dreaded "First Year Spread"? Don't worry we have 6 tips to keep you in shape and fit while still enjoying all the fun at university. 

Our Top 6 Tips to Get Fit

  1. Take the stairs - Every extra step counts! Next time you’re about to hop in the lift challenge yourself and take the stairs instead. 8 floors can really work up a sweat! 

  2. Skip the sugar - We know you’re going out and it's hard to say no to another round, but this time try skip the sugar. So whether it's a whisky soda or a castle lite, try and cut down on all those sugary mixers and liquid calories. 

  3. Walk to class - Walking is a great way to burn fat so if you live close enough try walking to campus or around town. Set your own goal of what is manageable for you and try aim for somewhere between 5 000 to 10 000 steps a day (easily trackable on your phone).

  4. Group exercise - It can be hard to motivate yourself to go to the gym and stick to that program, so why not find a gym buddy and motivate each other. Set a goal with rewards, the Nike run club and training app both have killer workouts and tailored programs you can set up for free. Whoever slacks or misses a session of the program treats the other to a healthy lunch or whatever reward you set. That’s one way to motivate you!

  5. Pack your own lunch - We know it's tempting to grab a burger and chips on campus but try to pack your own lunch. There are many healthy, affordable and quick lunch options, Tasty is a really great source of cooking inspiration. 

  6.
